INDIAN & PAKISTANI Friends in Houston (Part 2)

There are so many buildings here. It's one of the largest malls In Houston. I see. Almost all the high end stores can be seen here. In our place, there are malls like the Big Bazaar & likewise. Is there any 'Wal-Mart' or 'Target' here? Some small shops or so? -Here, there are specific stores. -Okay. This person Is leaving We got a good spot In front of this. Perfect to park here. In fact, today we're lucky. I never came to a mall after Covid. Okay. But, It's really difficult to find a parking spot. In this mall? Just because It's free? Not because of that. But many people come here. Shopping Is a little dull due to Covid. Alright. Let's move. Please put your masks on, guys. Okay. Can I leave my jacket here? Oh, you are getting down from that side? Alright. Got him out? I tried to open It from this side.

He's still trapped Inside? I did open from this end. There’s a child lock In the car, so. We have to bring him out by opening the door from outside. On the last trip. Well, I'm saying this just to you. Last time when I came here, just like how we met now I met Mr. Rushed, the last time. Well, he's an American citizen now. But his roots are from Bangladesh. It was fun to roam a lot with him. We had visited Richmond also. He was based In Virginia. Richmond Is the capital of Virginia? Yes, that's right. So. I forgot hIs exact address. Anyways, I explored the city with him.

& now, I am doing It with you. This gentleman Is from Lahore, Pakistan. & the other gentleman Is from Kalyan, MumbaI. He Is from India! In a foreign l&, I don't know why, but we never happen to differentiate between India, Bangladesh or Pakistan. We are hanging around here as If we are college friends. That's so beautiful. What's that called? -Water wall. -It's called just Waterfall? -Water wall, actually. -Water wall, okay. Let's clIck some pictures.

I had to take an Uber to go to my host's place. & I said, "Lacombe." He was like, "Lacombe"? -& then he said, "Oh, Lacombe?" -I was like, "Yes, that one." I didn’t know It's pronounced as Lacombe & not Lacombe. If they mention J, It would be pronounced as H. Let me tell you a very good story of what happened when I came here. I started working for Chase bank. Chase bank, okay. In Spanish, they pronounce J as "H". I had a colleague & when I saw his name, It was my second day actually. First day at work actually. It was my first or second week since I had come to the US. So, I had to ask him something & his real name Is Juan, which starts with an H. I called him "Juan" which starts with J. He looked at me, He was like, "Excuse me?" "My name Is Juan, with an H" It doesn't start with J" I was like, "I am sorry, extremely sorry. I didn’t know that In Spanish." So, Instances like these happen. Like, there's "Jalapenos" starting with H. -Yeah, Jalapenos. -We call It Jalapenos with a J. I used to call It "Yalapenos" for a long tIme. "No, It's not Yalapenos, It's Halapenos."

When I was In the Dominican Republic, I went to a juice shop... Sorry, It was a breakfast place, a snack corner kind of a shop. -It's known as "Tapri" In Mumbai. -Yes, that's right. So, I went there & I ordered some... There was some kind of a fruit Juice I said "Jugo" and she replied - "In Spanish, It's not Jugo. It's Hugo". I was like, "It's J written here. It's got to be Jugo!" Like, there Is a very common name In the HIspanIc communIty,It's J-0-R-G-E. If you spell that In English, It says "Gorge" -Exactly! -But that's actually "Hor-hey" Oh, my god. Hor-hey! Yea, so their names are badly butchered here, to an extent that they say, "Please call me George". & It's because the rIght pronuncIatIon Is Hor-hey. There Is one more In Spanish. When you read L-L. -TortIya. -TortIya, yes. That's 'TortIlla' when we pronounce. I was booking my American Airlines ticket while I was In Serbia. So, I called up American Airlines here & the lady from customer care was American. I said, "Puntachanna". "What?" C-A-N-A. It's because If that symbol Isn't there over C, then It's pronounced as 'Ch.' In Serbia "Sorry Its not Puntachanna, Oh, you mean Punta Cana?" I said, "Yes, sorry. It's Punta Cana"-So, where have we reached? Hill... -Hill croft. Hill croft. This Is Mahatma G&hI District? Yes, there will be a board at the Intersection which reads "Mahatma G&hi District". They have Indian jewelry stores there. There Is another store of which Virat KohII Is the br& ambassador. -Yes, which one Is that? -They sell Kurta Pajama. -Manyavar, yes. -Yes, they have a Manyavar store as well and there Is PatanjalI. -Oh, they have PatanjalI as well! BabajI Is selling toothpaste here as well? What did you say? I mean, BabajI's products are also being sold here. -Amazing! -Lots of Indian stuff here. Just run your eyes around. You can't fInd non-Indian shops In this area. You'll not find anything non Indian In these 3-4 complexes which are adjacent to each other. Well, I love this restaurant's food. You go first. You go. I'll hold the door for you and all I know Is this 'Tokri Chat' which everyone likes. This Is Mumbai style 'Vada Pav'. Where Is the 'Vada Pav'? Oh, there It Is. Okay, Okay. Thank you. Oh, sorry. I forgot to make some space. Thanks. This Is the 'Plain Dosa', right? What was that 'KatorI'...? 'Tokri Chat', I was saying 'KatorI Chat'. 'Tokri chat', 'Dosa' & a few other things we had...Click Here and Read More
